🚫 VICTORY: HMO REFUSED ON WEST STREET 🚫

We’re pleased to report that today the Southern Planning Committee rejected the application to cram a six-person HMO into 523 West Street.

This was absolutely the right decision – and a win for common sense. 🙌

We made it clear the scheme failed to meet the council’s own policies, including:
❌ HOU 4 – no internal communal space and not enough outdoor amenity
❌ HOU 10 – inadequate bin and cycle storage
❌ SD 2 & SE 1 – poor design, no sense of place
❌ NPPF Paragraph 130 – fails to improve character or quality of the area

👂 The committee listened.
🗣️ Residents spoke up.
✊ We stood our ground.

A big thank you to everyone who objected, shared concerns, or supported behind the scenes. 💬💪 Together, we protected a local street from overdevelopment.

We’ll keep standing up for proper planning, residents’ voices, and stronger rules on HMOs across Crewe.

🚧 FixMyStreet is being replaced – meet traCE 🛠️

Cheshire East Council is launching a brand-new tool called ‘traCE’ to replace FixMyStreet for reporting potholes, fly-tipping, and other local issues.

🗓️ From TOMORROW! Wednesday 23rd July, traCE will be the new go-to site to report:

Potholes

Abandoned vehicles

Fly-tipping

Fallen trees

Broken signs
…and more, right across Cheshire East.

📲 It’s available 24/7 on your phone, tablet or computer — with live updates and a handy map so you can see if others have already reported the same issue.

📝 Any open reports from FixMyStreet will automatically carry over, so you don’t need to start again.

👀 We really hope this new system is more effective & not just a shiny rebrand. Residents have told us time and again that reporting is one thing, but getting things fixed is another. We’ll be testing it ourselves and keeping track of how it performs.

📍 You’ll be able to access traCE here from launch day:

☎️ For anything dangerous or urgent, remember you need to call 0300 123 5020.

As always, if you need a hand using the new system or if something isn’t getting sorted, get in touch we’re here to help.

💥 FINALLY ITS DONE! 💥

We’ve been chasing this fly tipping issue behind the Old School House for months and it’s finally been sorted! 🙌🧹

Massive thanks to Dave and the team from Your Housing Group for stepping up and getting it cleared after our continued requests.

We’ve been persistent, and we’re proud to say that pressure paid off. 💪

We know how frustrating this has been, and we want to thank everyone for your patience while we kept pushing behind the scenes. This is what happens when we don’t give up,
and we won’t stop fighting to get things sorted for our community.👊

👉 If something’s not right in our area, we’ll keep at it until it’s fixed, no matter how long it takes.

🚨 FLY-TIPPING – SORTED! 🧹

After we posted about the shocking mess dumped at the car park entrance on Browning Street, we’re pleased to report it’s now been CLEARED.

This isn’t just about rubbish, it’s about respect for our community. Dumping waste like this is disgusting and illegal. We’re keeping the pressure on and will continue reporting hotspots when we see them.

👏 Thank you to everyone who supports our mission to clean up Crewe, one street at a time.

🚧 “Biggest Highways Investment in 10 Years”? Not in Crewe Central. 🚧

Cheshire East Council says it’s investing more in our roads than it has in a decade, over £53 million. But what has Crewe Central been given?

Just two minor lighting upgrades on Cornwall Grove and Stafford Street.

That’s it.

Let’s be clear: street lighting matters. It helps residents feel safer, and if these columns needed replacing, we welcome that.

But that cannot be the extent of investment in one of the most heavily used and neglected areas of the borough.

Meanwhile, West Street, an A-road that connects the town centre to Nantwich, is falling apart. It’s so patched and broken it looks like a quilt. This road is a major commuter route, used by buses, parents, lorries, and emergency vehicles. And yet, not a penny of this investment has gone towards fixing it.

We were promised investment “where it will have the greatest impact.” I fail to see how lighting columns on two small streets deliver that.

I’ve written to the council asking why Crewe Central has been overlooked again, and what criteria they used to decide which areas matter and which can be ignored.

We deserve better than this.

I’ll keep fighting until we get the fair funding and safe roads this community deserves.

🚔 #OpSceptre | Week of Action to Tackle Knife Crime

We joined our brilliant PCSOs today for a knife sweep across parts of Crewe Central as part of the national Week of Action on knife crime.

✅ No knives were found, but we did collect plenty of litter and had some great conversations with residents about safety and pride in our local parks.

📍 We’ll also be holding a community drop-in this Thursday 22nd May at Crewe lifestyle centre 3pm, alongside the PCSOs and the official knife amnesty bin.
If you or someone you know wants to dispose of a knife safely and anonymously — this is your chance.

Thank you to @CreweCentralPolice for the partnership today.

Let’s keep Crewe North safe, clean and supported — together.

Today I was joined by David Simcox – Crewe as we met with PCSO Penny Probin and PCSO Lorraine Meggs Crewe Central Police on Derby Docks.

We discussed a number of issues raised by residents, including fires on the docks, school parking, bin problems, antisocial behaviour, Bright Street Park, and general parking obstructions.

We also highlighted two ongoing concerns:
🚗 Parking issues on Joseph Reddrop Way, and
🏎️ Speeding on West Street, where residents tell us the new speed calming measures have actually made things worse.

We’re working together to arrange joint PCSO surgeries so people have more opportunities to raise local issues and get support for all of us in one convenient location.

Thanks again to our local PCSOs Penny & Lorraine for their time, hard work and commitment!

🚨 SPEEDING ON WEST STREET – ISSUE RAISED 🚨

Over the past week, I’ve been contacted by several residents about the worsening speeding problems on West Street, despite the recent reduction to a 20mph zone and the installation of speed humps.

👀 I’ve seen it for myself — drivers swerving into the middle of the road to avoid the humps and racing to beat oncoming traffic. It’s dangerous and completely undermines the purpose of the traffic calming measures.

📩 I’ve now formally raised this with Cheshire East Council’s Members Enquiries team and will be discussing it with our local PCSOs this week too. I’ve asked for a full review of the road layout and for serious consideration of better solutions like wider speed humps, raised tables, or speed cameras.

⚠️ Residents are rightly concerned that someone could be hurt if this continues. I’ll keep you updated on the response and any progress.

🚦 Thanks for reporting this so quickly, David.

It’s extremely disappointing to see problems again at this major junction, especially so soon after residents raised concerns on 9th April.

⚠️ I’m monitoring this situation closely and have flagged it again with Cheshire East Highways for urgent attention.
⚠️ I will also be pushing for a proper review of the junction to make sure any faults are properly dealt with, residents should not have to keep facing the same risks.

This needs more than just a temporary fix, public safety must come first. I’ll keep working with residents to make sure it’s not brushed aside.

📍 West Avenue fly-tipping sorted!

We’re seeing a noticeable increase in fly-tipping across Crewe Central. These photos show yet another example near the alley gate on West Avenue and across the road, reported, cleared, and dealt with.

But here’s the issue: as soon as we clear one pile, another turns up. This can’t continue. Please don’t fly tip, it’s illegal, unsightly, and unfair on your neighbours.

💡 If you need to get rid of rubbish, there are proper options available:

Use your household waste bin collection

Take it to the household recycling centre

Or book a bulky waste collection via the council

🕵️‍♂️ I’m keeping a close eye on the ward using FixMyStreet, if you see fly tipping, please report it there. It’s fast, easy and makes a real difference:

📣 Standing with Residents on the Pocket Park Concerns 🌳

I have heard from many of you have raised strong concerns about the proposed new entrance to the Samuel Street Pocket Park. As reported in the latest Crewe Nub News article, the decision has sparked understandable frustration in our community.

I’ve now written to Cllr Mick Warren, Chair of the Environment and Communities Committee, to request the full evidence behind the claim that other entrance options, particularly at Richard Moon Street, were thoroughly evaluated and ruled out.

Residents deserve to see the facts. That includes: ✅ The full evaluation report
✅ Tree and safety assessments
✅ Risk and accessibility audits
✅ What alternative options were genuinely considered

I will continue to support the local community in asking the right questions and pushing for transparency. This is your neighbourhood your voice matters and I am here for you.

💥 FLY-TIPPING CLEARED – CREWE CENTRAL 💥

After raising the alarm earlier this week about the disgraceful fly-tipping on St Paul’s Street near Jubilee Gardens, we’re pleased to confirm it’s now been fully cleared. ✅

🚫 I’ve formally objected to another HMO on Crewe Street.

I stand fully with the residents of this area. I hear your concerns, and I’ve witnessed firsthand the challenges you’re facing every day.

💬 Since elected, I’ve spoken with residents who have shared their concerns about ongoing fly-tipping, noise, and antisocial behaviour linked to certain properties. I completely understand why people are feeling frustrated — and at times, even unsafe.

Enough is enough.

I’ve made it clear that this community needs support, not more unmanaged HMOs. I’m continuing to raise these issues with Your Housing Group and am urging them to ensure that all their properties are properly maintained and managed, with respect for the neighbourhood.

Last night, I visited Meredith Street with David Simcox – Crewe to meet with Matthew Latham and his colleague from the Neighbourhood Watch scheme 👮‍♂️, along with Dave from Crewe Clean Team ♻️.

The work Crewe Clean Team does across our town, supported by a large number of volunteers 🙌, is nothing short of amazing 👏.

We discussed a number of ongoing issues that residents have been raising for some time – including broken fencing that Assured Housing has still not acted on 🧱, an abandoned trailer and pizza cart 🚛🍕, and wider problems in alleyways such as fly-tipping 🚯 and damaged alleyway gates 🚪.

Matthew showed us one of the alleyways that had recently been cleaned with the help of Dave and the Clean Team 🧹 – a great example of community pride in action. But it also highlighted how fly-tipping, safety concerns, and bins left on pavements 🗑️ are making things worse for residents.

We also spoke about Cheshire East Council’s plans to introduce fines 💷 under a borough-wide Section 46 notice. This means residents could face Fixed Penalty Notices for leaving bins out too early or too late. I don’t want to see any of our residents fined – I want to work with the community to fix these issues together 🤝.

It’s always encouraging to meet residents who genuinely care about their street and want to make a difference 💪. That’s exactly what David Simcox – Crewe and I are here to support.

📩 If you live locally and are experiencing any of these issues, get in touch – I’m here to help.
