Roger Morris, Crewe Central Ward

Welcome

Hello! My name is Roger Morris, I am your local councillor for Crewe Central ward.

From West Street to Underwood Lane, Dunwoody Way to Delemere Street, Broad Street to Bright Street and all roads and communities in between – we are all Crewe Central ward.

I am working for local residents to tackle issues such as pot holes, litter, fly tipping, parking problems, street lighting, and anti social behaviour to make our area better.

I’ve worked in my family business in Crewe Central for 35 plus years. Our motorbike shop was established in 1920 and I’m the fourth generation, still in the same premises on West Street. That is commitment to our area!

During the COVID pandemic, like everyone, I wanted to do whatever I could to help. We desperately needed somewhere in Crewe Central to administer Covid Jabs. I didn’t talk about it – I just did it.
Find out how I helped set up the West Street vaccination centre.

I want to hear from you about what you want doing and how you’d like to help. Tell me about the issues you’d like me to tackle in our area in my Residents Survey.

Read my latest news updates or check my recent facebook posts to find out what I’m up to!

Please follow and share my Facebook page and by sign up for my Email Newsletter so I can keep you up to date on local issues.

I want to hear from you!
I’d like to know what issues you’d like to see tackled in our community in Crewe Central Ward.
Please let me know by completing my residents survey online.

If you would like to get in contact about any local issue please do get in touch.

Thank you for your support!

Here’s what I’ve been up to recently…

🚨 FLY-TIPPING – SORTED! 🧹

After we posted about the shocking mess dumped at the car park entrance on Browning Street, we’re pleased to report it’s now been CLEARED.

This isn’t just about rubbish, it’s about respect for our community. Dumping waste like this is disgusting and illegal. We’re keeping the pressure on and will continue reporting hotspots when we see them.

👏 Thank you to everyone who supports our mission to clean up Crewe, one street at a time.

🚧 “Biggest Highways Investment in 10 Years”? Not in Crewe Central. 🚧

Cheshire East Council says it’s investing more in our roads than it has in a decade, over £53 million. But what has Crewe Central been given?

Just two minor lighting upgrades on Cornwall Grove and Stafford Street.

That’s it.

Let’s be clear: street lighting matters. It helps residents feel safer, and if these columns needed replacing, we welcome that.

But that cannot be the extent of investment in one of the most heavily used and neglected areas of the borough.

Meanwhile, West Street, an A-road that connects the town centre to Nantwich, is falling apart. It’s so patched and broken it looks like a quilt. This road is a major commuter route, used by buses, parents, lorries, and emergency vehicles. And yet, not a penny of this investment has gone towards fixing it.

We were promised investment “where it will have the greatest impact.” I fail to see how lighting columns on two small streets deliver that.

I’ve written to the council asking why Crewe Central has been overlooked again, and what criteria they used to decide which areas matter and which can be ignored.

We deserve better than this.

I’ll keep fighting until we get the fair funding and safe roads this community deserves.

🚔 #OpSceptre | Week of Action to Tackle Knife Crime

We joined our brilliant PCSOs today for a knife sweep across parts of Crewe Central as part of the national Week of Action on knife crime.

✅ No knives were found, but we did collect plenty of litter and had some great conversations with residents about safety and pride in our local parks.

📍 We’ll also be holding a community drop-in this Thursday 22nd May at Crewe lifestyle centre 3pm, alongside the PCSOs and the official knife amnesty bin.
If you or someone you know wants to dispose of a knife safely and anonymously — this is your chance.

Thank you to @CreweCentralPolice for the partnership today.

Let’s keep Crewe North safe, clean and supported — together.

Today I was joined by David Simcox – Crewe as we met with PCSO Penny Probin and PCSO Lorraine Meggs Crewe Central Police on Derby Docks.

We discussed a number of issues raised by residents, including fires on the docks, school parking, bin problems, antisocial behaviour, Bright Street Park, and general parking obstructions.

We also highlighted two ongoing concerns:
🚗 Parking issues on Joseph Reddrop Way, and
🏎️ Speeding on West Street, where residents tell us the new speed calming measures have actually made things worse.

We’re working together to arrange joint PCSO surgeries so people have more opportunities to raise local issues and get support for all of us in one convenient location.

Thanks again to our local PCSOs Penny & Lorraine for their time, hard work and commitment!

🚨 SPEEDING ON WEST STREET – ISSUE RAISED 🚨

Over the past week, I’ve been contacted by several residents about the worsening speeding problems on West Street, despite the recent reduction to a 20mph zone and the installation of speed humps.

👀 I’ve seen it for myself — drivers swerving into the middle of the road to avoid the humps and racing to beat oncoming traffic. It’s dangerous and completely undermines the purpose of the traffic calming measures.

📩 I’ve now formally raised this with Cheshire East Council’s Members Enquiries team and will be discussing it with our local PCSOs this week too. I’ve asked for a full review of the road layout and for serious consideration of better solutions like wider speed humps, raised tables, or speed cameras.

⚠️ Residents are rightly concerned that someone could be hurt if this continues. I’ll keep you updated on the response and any progress.

🚦 Thanks for reporting this so quickly, David.

It’s extremely disappointing to see problems again at this major junction, especially so soon after residents raised concerns on 9th April.

⚠️ I’m monitoring this situation closely and have flagged it again with Cheshire East Highways for urgent attention.
⚠️ I will also be pushing for a proper review of the junction to make sure any faults are properly dealt with, residents should not have to keep facing the same risks.

This needs more than just a temporary fix, public safety must come first. I’ll keep working with residents to make sure it’s not brushed aside.

📍 West Avenue fly-tipping sorted!

We’re seeing a noticeable increase in fly-tipping across Crewe Central. These photos show yet another example near the alley gate on West Avenue and across the road, reported, cleared, and dealt with.

But here’s the issue: as soon as we clear one pile, another turns up. This can’t continue. Please don’t fly tip, it’s illegal, unsightly, and unfair on your neighbours.

💡 If you need to get rid of rubbish, there are proper options available:

Use your household waste bin collection

Take it to the household recycling centre

Or book a bulky waste collection via the council

🕵️‍♂️ I’m keeping a close eye on the ward using FixMyStreet, if you see fly tipping, please report it there. It’s fast, easy and makes a real difference:
