Roger Morris, Crewe Central Ward

Welcome

Hello! My name is Roger Morris, I am your local councillor for Crewe Central ward.

From West Street to Underwood Lane, Dunwoody Way to Delemere Street, Broad Street to Bright Street and all roads and communities in between – we are all Crewe Central ward.

I am working for local residents to tackle issues such as pot holes, litter, fly tipping, parking problems, street lighting, and anti social behaviour to make our area better.

I’ve worked in my family business in Crewe Central for 35 plus years. Our motorbike shop was established in 1920 and I’m the fourth generation, still in the same premises on West Street. That is commitment to our area!

During the COVID pandemic, like everyone, I wanted to do whatever I could to help. We desperately needed somewhere in Crewe Central to administer Covid Jabs. I didn’t talk about it – I just did it.
Find out how I helped set up the West Street vaccination centre.

I want to hear from you about what you want doing and how you’d like to help. Tell me about the issues you’d like me to tackle in our area in my Residents Survey.

Read my latest news updates or check my recent facebook posts to find out what I’m up to!

Please follow and share my Facebook page and by sign up for my Email Newsletter so I can keep you up to date on local issues.

I want to hear from you!
I’d like to know what issues you’d like to see tackled in our community in Crewe Central Ward.
Please let me know by completing my residents survey online.

If you would like to get in contact about any local issue please do get in touch.

Thank you for your support!

Here’s what I’ve been up to recently…

🚫 VICTORY: HMO REFUSED ON WEST STREET 🚫

We’re pleased to report that today the Southern Planning Committee rejected the application to cram a six-person HMO into 523 West Street.

This was absolutely the right decision – and a win for common sense. 🙌

We made it clear the scheme failed to meet the council’s own policies, including:
❌ HOU 4 – no internal communal space and not enough outdoor amenity
❌ HOU 10 – inadequate bin and cycle storage
❌ SD 2 & SE 1 – poor design, no sense of place
❌ NPPF Paragraph 130 – fails to improve character or quality of the area

👂 The committee listened.
🗣️ Residents spoke up.
✊ We stood our ground.

A big thank you to everyone who objected, shared concerns, or supported behind the scenes. 💬💪 Together, we protected a local street from overdevelopment.

We’ll keep standing up for proper planning, residents’ voices, and stronger rules on HMOs across Crewe.

🚧 FixMyStreet is being replaced – meet traCE 🛠️

Cheshire East Council is launching a brand-new tool called ‘traCE’ to replace FixMyStreet for reporting potholes, fly-tipping, and other local issues.

🗓️ From TOMORROW! Wednesday 23rd July, traCE will be the new go-to site to report:

Potholes

Abandoned vehicles

Fly-tipping

Fallen trees

Broken signs
…and more, right across Cheshire East.

📲 It’s available 24/7 on your phone, tablet or computer — with live updates and a handy map so you can see if others have already reported the same issue.

📝 Any open reports from FixMyStreet will automatically carry over, so you don’t need to start again.

👀 We really hope this new system is more effective & not just a shiny rebrand. Residents have told us time and again that reporting is one thing, but getting things fixed is another. We’ll be testing it ourselves and keeping track of how it performs.

📍 You’ll be able to access traCE here from launch day:

☎️ For anything dangerous or urgent, remember you need to call 0300 123 5020.

As always, if you need a hand using the new system or if something isn’t getting sorted, get in touch we’re here to help.

💥 FINALLY ITS DONE! 💥

We’ve been chasing this fly tipping issue behind the Old School House for months and it’s finally been sorted! 🙌🧹

Massive thanks to Dave and the team from Your Housing Group for stepping up and getting it cleared after our continued requests.

We’ve been persistent, and we’re proud to say that pressure paid off. 💪

We know how frustrating this has been, and we want to thank everyone for your patience while we kept pushing behind the scenes. This is what happens when we don’t give up,
and we won’t stop fighting to get things sorted for our community.👊

👉 If something’s not right in our area, we’ll keep at it until it’s fixed, no matter how long it takes.

🚨 Incident Alert – Vehicle Fire near Dunwoody Way 🚨

A car is currently on fire just before the traffic lights heading towards Dunwoody Way in Crewe. Emergency services are likely to attend shortly, but for now, please avoid the area if possible and take an alternative route.

We’ll update when the scene is cleared and safe again.

🚨 FLY-TIPPING – SORTED! 🧹

After we posted about the shocking mess dumped at the car park entrance on Browning Street, we’re pleased to report it’s now been CLEARED.

This isn’t just about rubbish, it’s about respect for our community. Dumping waste like this is disgusting and illegal. We’re keeping the pressure on and will continue reporting hotspots when we see them.

👏 Thank you to everyone who supports our mission to clean up Crewe, one street at a time.

Let’s keep going! 💪
If you spot a problem, tag us or message us — together, we’ll get it sorted.

🚧 “Biggest Highways Investment in 10 Years”? Not in Crewe Central. 🚧

Cheshire East Council says it’s investing more in our roads than it has in a decade, over £53 million. But what has Crewe Central been given?

Just two minor lighting upgrades on Cornwall Grove and Stafford Street.

That’s it.

Let’s be clear: street lighting matters. It helps residents feel safer, and if these columns needed replacing, we welcome that.

But that cannot be the extent of investment in one of the most heavily used and neglected areas of the borough.

Meanwhile, West Street, an A-road that connects the town centre to Nantwich, is falling apart. It’s so patched and broken it looks like a quilt. This road is a major commuter route, used by buses, parents, lorries, and emergency vehicles. And yet, not a penny of this investment has gone towards fixing it.

We were promised investment “where it will have the greatest impact.” I fail to see how lighting columns on two small streets deliver that.

I’ve written to the council asking why Crewe Central has been overlooked again, and what criteria they used to decide which areas matter and which can be ignored.

We deserve better than this.

I’ll keep fighting until we get the fair funding and safe roads this community deserves.

🚔 #OpSceptre | Week of Action to Tackle Knife Crime

We joined our brilliant PCSOs today for a knife sweep across parts of Crewe Central as part of the national Week of Action on knife crime.

✅ No knives were found, but we did collect plenty of litter and had some great conversations with residents about safety and pride in our local parks.

📍 We’ll also be holding a community drop-in this Thursday 22nd May at Crewe lifestyle centre 3pm, alongside the PCSOs and the official knife amnesty bin.
If you or someone you know wants to dispose of a knife safely and anonymously — this is your chance.

Thank you to @CreweCentralPolice for the partnership today.

Let’s keep Crewe North safe, clean and supported — together.
