Polling stations
The location of the polling station will be written on your polling card which you will receive in the post prior to election day if you are registered to vote, if you have lost your polling card you can check online.
You can only vote at the polling station location on your polling card or online checker.
You do not need to take your polling card with you to vote, but you do need to take photo ID.
If you have a postal vote, you can hand it in at your polling station on election day up to 10pm

Photo ID is now required
The UK Government has introduced a requirement for voters to show photo ID when voting at a polling station at some elections. This includes elections for Cheshire East Council. On election day you only need to show one form of photographic ID to staff at the polling station, but it needs to be the original version and not a scan, image or photocopy.
You cannot use a picture of the document on your phone, it must be the original document. If you have a form of accepted photo ID which is out of date, you can still use it if it still looks like you.
You may already have a form of photo ID that is acceptable. You can use any of the following:
- Passport
- Driving licence (including provisional license)
- Blue badge
- Certain concessionary travel cards
- Identity card with PASS mark (Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
- Biometric Immigration document
- Defence identity card
- Certain national identity cards
Here is the full list of accepted photo ID
What happens at the Polling Station?
If you’ve never voted at a polling station before don’t worry, it’s quick, easy and confidential!
When you enter the polling station, tell the staff your name and address so they can check that you’re on the electoral register. They will ask for your photo ID so they can check it against the details on the register.
They will then give you a ballot paper. Take your ballot paper into a polling booth. These are private, screened areas designed so that no one else can see how you vote.
Clearly mark your ballot paper with an X – not a tick – next to the candidate you would like to vote for (hopefully Roger Morris!)
When you’ve filled in your ballot paper, fold it in half and put it into the ballot box. Job done!
